Winny Mapuor

Born: Khartoum, Sudan

Desired Major: Medicine

Winny Mapuor is a Southen Sudanese Dinka who grew up in Khartoum. She attended the Khartoum Diplomatic School where she won highest academic rankings in the entire country! Winny wants to peruse medicine and become a well-trained doctor so that she work in rural areas of South Sudan and help her people overcome poverty by overcoming disease.

The poor healthcare in Sudan is due to the lack of well-trained doctors which is attributed to the lack of good training facilities in the medical schools. If l get the opportunity to finish my studies abroad and gain more knowledge and experience, I will come back to Sudan and try benefiting the people. My aim is to become a medical doctor and go to the rural areas all over Sudan treating as many patients as possible and training the medical students in a way that they themselves will go and train others. I will also open a clinic where l can treat those who cannot aiord the doctors in the private hospitals.
